GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina's contest against Rice on Oct. 17 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium has been selected as the Pirates' 2009 Homecoming tilt according to a release of football game-day designations Friday.
The Conference USA matchup against the Owls will also serve as High School Band Day and represent the start of the regular season's second half, a six-game stretch that features four home contests.
East Carolina will kickoff the campaign Sept. 5 when it lines up against three-time Football Championship Subdivision National Champion Appalachian State to highlight Pirate Club Weekend activities.
After a pair of road battles at West Virginia and North Carolina, the Pirates will return home for Family Weekend Sept. 26 as they officially begin defense of their C-USA title by welcoming UCF to Greenville. In addition, the meeting against the Knights will underline a tradition of festivities that surround Hall of Fame and Letterwinners Weekend.
Military Appreciation Day will make its popular annual return to Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium Nov. 21 when the Pirates meet league divisional foe UAB before East Carolina closes out regular season play against Southern Miss by observing Senior Day and Academic Success Day on Nov. 28.
Game times will be announced at a later date after all television scheduling needs have been determined.
