GREENVILLE, N.C. - Former East Carolina offensive tackle Stanley Bryant has agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos on a free agent contract according to a confirmatory report from the National Football League Wednesday.
Bryant will participate in the team's mandatory three-day rookie mini-camp this weekend at the Broncos' training facility in Englewood, Colo.
The Goldsboro (N.C.) native, who officially earned a roster position with the Pirate program as a junior walk-on transfer in the spring of 2007, recently completed his ECU career after starting 14 of 19 games on the offensive line. In all, he experienced action in 845 snaps and was credited with a combined 62 knock-down blocks.
Bryant quickly assumed a starting role during his initial season in 2007, opening the last eight contests at left tackle. In addition to leading East Carolina to its first bowl victory in seven years with a 41-38 win against No. 24 Boise State in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl, he also co-anchored a line that produced five individual 100-yard rushing and three 100-yard receiving games. Bryant's participation in 584 plays and 40 knock-downs, which ranked second among all ECU linemen, helped the Pirates set a school single-season record for most points (403) and touchdowns (52) scored.
He played a key role in East Carolina's 3-0 record and No. 14 national rank to open the 2008 campaign, extending his starting streak to 11 before missing the N.C. State contest because of a knee injury suffered a week earlier at Tulane. Bryant returned to the lineup Oct. 18 and posted a career-high 10 knock-down blocks against Memphis before re-injuring the knee a week later at UCF. He made a second successful comeback to earn a starting position against Kentucky in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl Jan. 2 and logged four knock-downs to complete the season with a total of 22 in 261 plays.
Prior to beginning his collegiate career at Elizabeth City (N.C.) State University, Bryant earned three letters at Goldsboro High School.
Other reported free agent signings involving former East Carolina players were not confirmed by the NFL or any of its organizations as of noon Wednesday.
