GREENVILLE, N.C. - Shala Hodges (Raleigh, N.C.) has signed a national letter of intent to attend and play basketball at East Carolina beginning in the fall, according to an announcement by head coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener Wednesday.
Hodges, a shooting guard, finished this season ranked 10th in scoring among all North Carolina high school players, averaging 22 points per contest. She scored 50 points in a game against Southeast Raleigh as the senior led Enloe High School to a 16-10 record and a berth in the 4A state playoffs.
Hodges garnered numerous honors during her prep career, including selection to the VYPE Ladies to Watch list, Carolina Scouting Report Top 100 ledger and the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational All-Tournament Team. Additionally, she was a nominee for the McDonald's All-American Game.
"I am very excited about the addition of Shala Hodges to our basketball team," Baldwin-Tener stated. "She is a great offensive player that can score driving to the basket, shooting pull-up jumpers and shooting the three. She is an outstanding young lady and we welcome her to the Pirate family."
Hodges, who intends to major in sports marketing, joins recent signees Ariana Jackson (forward, West Palm Beach, Fla.) Elaine Morgan (guard, Raleigh, N.C.) and Celeste Stewart (guard, Indian Hills, N.C.) as the newest members of the Lady Pirate program.
