GREENVILLE, N.C. - After temperatures reached in the upper 90's for the second straight day, East Carolina headed out for its daily afternoon practice session wearing shoulder pads for the first time this season by completing their third workout of fall camp on Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex Sunday.
The Pirates, who started fall practice Friday, Aug. 7, will follow Sunday's practice with single workouts at the practice facility through Tuesday before conducting the first of two two-a-day periods Wednesday, Aug. 12.
Head coach Skip Holtz and staff guided ECU through a traditional two-and-a-half hour practice which emphasized all facets of offensive and defensive team work, including repetitions with the Pirates' schemes and alignments. East Carolina closed the workout with a 15-minute scrimmage period that featured all levels of the offensive and defensive preseason depth chart.
The Pirates will spend Monday's workout in shells (shoulder pads, helmets and shorts) before putting on full gear for the first time Tuesday afternoon.
NOTES: Monday's Practice Time: 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.; Season Opener: Sept. 5 vs. Appalachian State in Greenville (12 noon).
