
Volleyball Seeks WSSU Invite Title Saturday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The East Carolina volleyball team returns to the Gaines Center on the campus of Winston-Salem State University today as it looks to capture the tournament title. The Pirates will face Wofford at 10 a.m. before meeting Savannah State at 4 p.m.
ECU enjoyed two fine hitting efforts in wins over the host Rams and UNC Asheville Friday, taking the matches 3-0 and 3-1, respectively. The Pirates racked up a .434 percentage against WSSU, tallying 40 kills on 76 attempts with just seven errors. The offensive highlight belonged to sophomore Britney Roper, who put down 12 kills on 18 attempts with no errors, producing a .667 mark. In all, East Carolina put six players at or above the .400 plateau.
Against the Bulldogs, senior Stephanie Turner notched her third double-double of the season, ripping off 13 kills to go along with a team-high 15 digs. Junior Lizzy Bruin earned the team lead with 17 kills while senior Melissa Zentner and Roper also reached double-digits with 11 and 10, respectively. Senior setter Hannah Fenker enjoyed the best outing of her campaign, handing out 54 assists.
Wofford picked up two sweeps over WSSU and Savannah State Friday while the Tigers also dropped a three-set decision to UNC Asheville.
