Dodge Receives Second Weekly Honor

GREENVILLE, N.C. - For the second straight week, East Carolina senior Matt Dodge received weekly honors from the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) after being named Kickoff Specialist-of-the-Week and receiving honorable mention Punter-of-the-Week honors following his outstanding play against No. 24 North Carolina on Sept. 19.
Dodge, a native of Morehead City, N.C., kicked off four times for 282 yards resulting in a career high 70.5 kickoff average. Against the Tar Heels, he punted six times for 293 yards with three going for 50-plus yards including a season-long 58-yarder in the first quarter. He placed three punts inside the 20-yard line and posted a 48.8 average, which was also a career high. Through three games, he has punted 18 times for 846 yards (47.0 avg.), which ranks third nationally and his career average of 43.0 is third on ECU's all-time punting charts.
Heading into the season, Dodge was named preseason honorable mention All-America by CollegeFootballNews.com, an All Conference USA selection by Phil Steele Magazine and Rivals.com and was named to the Ray Guy Award Watch List, which is given annually to the nation's top punter.
The goal of the College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
