ECU Game Notes | Marshall Game Notes
GREENVILLE, N.C. - It's Homecoming on the East Carolina University campus as the Pirates host Marshall in a Conference USA clash at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium Saturday beginning at 4:15 p.m. ECU will try to continue its momentum after a 33-27 non-league overtime triumph against North Carolina State last week, while at the same time, attempt to extend its overall C-USA and divisional win streaks to nine straight when it meets the Thundering Herd. The Pirates, who are 3-0 in league play for the first time since 2001, will also close out a brief two-game homestand against Marshall before traveling to UCF next week.
The Series
East Carolina leads 8-3 in the all-time series that began in 1967 ... Most recently, the Pirates have taken four of the last five and six of the last eight matchups ... The Thundering Herd owns the only neutral site victory after posting a thrilling 64-61 overtime win at the 2001 GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala. ... ECU has claimed all five contests in Greenville and holds a 3-2 edge when playing in Huntington.
East Carolina & Conference USA ... A 100-Game History
The Pirates will play their 100th Conference USA contest when they host Marshall Saturday ... Only Houston, Memphis, Southern Miss and Tulane have played more C-USA football games than ECU, which has posted a 59-40 record since beginning action in the fall of 1997 ... A closer look:

Setting The Pace ... Offensively
In addition to helping the Pirates to four victories in their first six games, East Carolina's new offensive system appears to be on pace to make quite an impression in the school's single-season record books ... A closer look:

Conference USA Pyrotechnics
East Carolina has scored 40 or more points in three consecutive Conference USA games (51 vs. Tulsa, 49 vs. Memphis and 44 vs. Southern Miss) for the first time since 2007 (which accomplished the milestone in four-straight contests vs. UCF, UTEP, UAB and Memphis) ... Ironically, Marshall stopped the fireworks show that particular season by shutting down ECU 26-7 ... In terms of points scored in a three-game span against league opponents, the 2010 Pirates' tally of 144 does stand at the top of the all-time list.
When The Bell Tolls
After surrendering a 54.9 third down conversion percentage (28-of-51) in its first three games, East Carolina's defense has stiffened in its last two contests ... The Pirates limited Southern Miss (3-of-17) and N.C. State (5-of-18) to a combined 8-of-35 clip - an impressive 22.9 percentage.
Damage Control
The Pirate defense has also made the most of bad situations the last two games, making three stops and forcing two field goals off the last seven turnovers.
