GREENVILLE, N.C. - After a pair of battles against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, East Carolina will return to its Conference USA schedule when it travels to Hattiesburg to meet Southern Miss for a 7:30 p.m. (ET) contest. The Pirates, who will try to improve their league mark to 3-0 for only the second time (2001) since accepting membership in C-USA in 1997, will also attempt to extend a seven-game intra-divisional win streak when they face off against the Golden Eagles - the last team to hand ECU an East Division setback after a 21-3 triumph in 2008.
The Series
Southern Miss leads 26-9 ... While the two long-time rivals have split their last four meetings, the Golden Eagles used four and five-game winning streaks to capture 11 of the last 14 meetings dating back to a 28-7 victory in 1996 ... ECU has dropped 11 of 17 games in Hattiesburg while posting a 3-15 mark against Southern Miss in Greenville.
Ruffin McNeill vs. Southern Miss – As A Player
Ruffin McNeill squared off against Southern Miss two times during his playing career at East Carolina ... As a safety under Pat Dye, McNeill enjoyed his collegiate debut in 1976 with a 48-0 Pirate victory at Ficklen Stadium before the Golden Eagles used a game-winning 35-yard field goal by Randy Boyette in the third quarter to nip ECU 17-16 during his junior campaign:

Battling Within The East Division – Seven Straight
The Pirates are 19-7 (.731) against Conference USA East Division opponents since the league implemented division play in 2005 ... ECU is 11-3 at home and 8-4 on the road in games against Marshall, Memphis, Southern Miss, UAB and UCF ... Before taking the 2010 divisional opener against Memphis and all five “east” matchups in 2009, the Pirates posted a 4-1 record in 2008, a 3-2 slate in 2007, a 4-1 mark in 2006 and a 2-3 ledger in 2005 ... On the flipside, ECU is 11-5 all-time against West Division members (1-0 in ‘10).
Two Up, Zero Down In C-USA Action
The Pirates are 2-0 to begin Conference USA play for the second-straight season and only the fourth time since joining the league in 1997 ... ECU was also 2-0 in 2001 and 2002, defeating Tulane and Army to open C-USA action, while handing UCF and Marshall setbacks a year ago ... Only the ‘01 East Carolina squad was perfect through three (and eventually 5-0 before losing).
Top-Ranked Redzone Results
By converting both (2-of-2) of their redzone opportunities against North Carolina, the Pirates improved to 15-of-15 this season when inside the opponents' 20-yard line ... ECU is one of only five teams to have a 100.0 percent redzone efficiency rating and have the most chances of any of the handful (Washington/13-of-13, Illinois/12-of-12, San Jose State/9-of-9 and Memphis/8-of-8) ... East Carolina has also made the most of its 15 redzone trips with 12 TDs.

With the release of the NCAA statistics through October 2 games, QB Dominique Davis is 2nd in completions per game, 4th in points per game responsible for, 12th in total offense per game, 15th in passing yards per game and 29th in total passing yards; WR Dwayne Harris is 9th in receptions per game and 24th in receiving yards per game; CB Emanuel Davis is 4th in fumbles recovered per game.
