GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Winners of five in-a-row, East Carolina will look to extend its winning streak to six games and remain unbeaten at home Tuesday night when its host Old Dominion.
ECU (7-2) has used its defensive tenacity to hold opponents to just 59.8 points and 35 percent shooting during its current winning streak. Overall the Pirates have held their opponents to under 40 percent shooting and 63 points per game. The opposition has scored over 70 points just twice and has been held under 55 points three times.
The Pirates have held each of their previous four opponents under their season shooting and scoring averages. ECU held Division II Fayetteville State to 34.3 percent shooting in a 91-70 Saturday after the Broncos had been shooting 45.9 percent from the floor on the season.
"I thought for 30 minutes tonight we played really well," Lebo said. "I was worried about this game after coming off an emotional win ... The last 10 minutes weren't great but at least everybody got a chance to play."
Senior Brock Young scored a season-high 22 points and sank a career-best four 3-pointers. The Raleigh native played just 23 minutes, but did make his third consecutive start after coming off the bench in the first five games he played.
ODU (5-2) will enter Tuesday's game coming off its worst shooting performance of the season. The Monarchs connected on just 35 percent (21-60) of its field goal attempts against Delaware Saturday as it winning streak was stopped at five games, 75-67. The Monarchs shot just 40.4 percent in their loss to Georgetown.
Saturday's loss came following three high-profile victories over Clemson, Xavier and Richmond, all games in which ODU held its opponents to 70 points or less. ODU is just 1-2 in games in which it allows 70 points and 4-1 when holding the opposition to 60 points or less.
East Carolina is 5-1 when scoring over 70 and 1-2 when failing to reach the mark.
Both teams have a trio of players averaging double figures with a senior leading the way for each squad. Jontae Sherrod is the Pirates' high-man with 12.8 points, while Frank Hassell leads the Monarchs' charge with 13.9 points per game.
Old Dominion has won the last two meetings in the series and holds a sizeable advantage in the series, 34-13. The Monarchs have won three of the four meetings in the series since the Pirates departed the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
East Carolina has won all six of its home games this season and is looking to win its first seven games inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum since 2003. Its seventh victory that year came against Virginia-based Radford University, 87-50.
