Harner Named To All-Conference USA Freshman Team

IRVING, Texas – East Carolina added to its 2010 All-Conference USA honors with the selection of redshirt freshman offensive lineman Grant Harner to the league’s all-freshman team, announced Tuesday by the C-USA office. Earlier in the day, the Pirates had nine players named to the All-Conference USA First, Second or Honorable Mention squads.
Harner has started 11 games at right tackle for ECU’s record-breaking offense. He has helped the Pirates to a No. 7 FBS ranking in passing offense (319.3 ypg) and a No. 12 showing in scoring (38.2 ppg). East Carolina also stands fourth in Conference USA in total offense, averaging 445.5 yards per contest.
The Jacksonville, Fla., native has protected junior quarterback Dominique Davis, allowing him to throw for 300 yards or more in five-straight games and establish program single-season records in attempts (552), completions (358), passing yards (3,699) and touchdown passes (36). As a whole, the Pirates have set single-season records in offensive touchdowns (58), points in Conference USA games (346) and total points (458). Harner and the rest of the offensive line stand 21st nationally in fewest sacks allowed per game (1.2).
All 12 Conference USA schools were represented on the freshman squad with Southern Miss, Tulsa and UCF leading the way with five selections apiece. The league will announce its freshman-of-the-year Wednesday, Dec. 8.
