IRVING, Texas - Junior forward Kim Gay has been selected to the 2010 Conference USA Women's Basketball All-Academic Team, according to an announcement by the league office Thursday. It is the first such career honor for the Eastman, Ga., native and the first in program history.
Gay is a business major and owns a 3.38 cumulative GPA, the highest on the squad. She has been a consistent honor roll performer in her time at East Carolina and earned selection to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll her freshman and sophomore seasons.
Ranking first in rebounding for the Lady Pirates, Gay also owns three double-doubles this season - including two against Memphis. In the recent overtime contest at the FedExForum against the Tigers, she scored a career-best 26 points to go along with 12 rebounds and drained the game-winning three-point field goal from NBA range with three seconds remaining in the extra session. Gay also earned MVP honors at the Lady Pirate Invitational, leading ECU to wins over Towson and Bethune-Cookman.
The Lady Pirates return to the court next week for the 2010 GMC Sierra Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship. East Carolina's seed, opponent and game time will be announced by the league after the conclusion of tonight's conference contests.
