Wilson Drafted In Seventh Round By Packers

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina end C.J. Wilson became the second Pirate defensive lineman, and third overall, selected in the 2010 National Football League Draft after the Green Bay Packers chose the four-year starter and two-time All-Conference USA performer with the 23rd pick (230th overall) of the seventh round Saturday.
Wilson joins second-rounder Linval Joseph (Giants) and earlier seventh-round choice Matt Dodge (Giants) on the draft board, marking the 16th multiple selection year in program history and the highest number of ECU picks since the NFL went to a seven-round format in 1994. Only the 1984 (8), 1992 (5) and 1990 (4) drafts have produced more selections in Pirate history.
Rated as one of the top ends and pass rushers in Conference USA, Wilson recently completed a 54-game career ranked among the Top 10 NCAA active leaders in assisted TFLs (1st), assisted sacks (5th), total TFLs (8th), total sacks (8th) and solo sacks (10th). In addition, as a member of the special teams squad, he tallied four blocked kicks in the last three seasons.
The Northside (N.C.) High School product, who ended his Pirate career with a starting streak that spanned 37-straight games, was credited with 57 tackles, 10.5 resulting in lost yardage, during his senior campaign in 2009. Wilson also led ECU with 5.5 sacks and was the unit's co-leader with 14 quarterback hurries while logging two or more overall stops in 12 of 14 games. He earned selection to the Ted Hendricks, 40th Annual Rotary Lombardi and Bronko Nagurski Award Watch Lists during the course of a season that produced the Pirates' second consecutive C-USA title.
Wilson served a key leadership role for a senior class that made four bowl game appearances and tallied 33 wins between 2006 and 2009 - ECU's second-highest win total in program history.
During his career, which included 44 starts, Wilson recorded 192 tackles, 45.5 TFLs, 27.0 sacks and 35 quarterback pressures.
Wilson, who turned 23 on March 30, is now one of seven defensive linemen to have been drafted in ECU history along with Joseph, Rod Coleman (Raiders/1999), DE Ernie Logan (Falcons/1991), DE Steve Hamilton (Redskins/1984), DE Hal Stephens (Rams/1984) and DE George Crump (Patriots/1982). However, he is the first Pirate to have been selected by the Packers in draft history.
