GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina University Board of Trustees formally approved Women's Basketball Head Coach Heather Macy's contract Thursday. The five-year agreement will run through the 2014-15 season.
Macy was named the 10th head coach in program history April 30, officially ending a three-year affiliation with Francis Marion University. She led the Patriots to three-consecutive NCAA Tournament berths and two Peach Belt Conference regular-season titles.
The Hamptonville, N.C., native owns a career record of 115-39 and her Francis Marion teams led the nation in scoring offense and steals per game from 2007-09. As a result, she was named Peach Belt Coach-of-the-Year for those seasons.
Macy arrived at Francis Marion after serving two years as head coach at Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, N.C. In 2006-07, she took the Falcons to a 26-5 record, the Carolina-Virginia Athletics Conference regular-season and tournament championships and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The team's record represented the fourth-best turnaround in Division II that campaign and Macy was named the conference's coach-of-the-year.
Her coaching resume also includes stints as an assistant coach at the University of Maryland Baltimore County and High Point University, as well as a pair of Division II schools - Lenoir-Rhyne College and Catawba College. In her six seasons as an assistant, Macy helped her teams to an 84-60 record.
