GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's basketball staff begins the search for the future of the program in earnest this month as head coach Heather Macy and assistants Shay Hayes, Ann Hancock and Fred Applin embark on the recruiting trail.
"Our suitcases are already packed and ready to go," Macy said. "It is our goal to fill our treasure chest with players who can continue building on the outstanding foundation here. We are in search for players who will take the program to new heights."
While on the road, coaches are allowed to evaluate talent, but cannot have contact with potential student-athletes, families or their prep coaches.
"It is an exciting time for me, especially being new to Greenville," Macy stated. "I can't wait to be on the road and begin putting the pieces of the puzzle into place for a championship run in Conference USA."
Macy owned an outstanding recruiting track record at Francis Marion, signing two players who garnered NCAA Division II All-America accolades. As a junior in 2008, Kevina Ransom led Division II in steals. Additionally, Shannon Singleton-Bates was a two-time All-America honoree for the Patriots.
The Pirates return all five starters and 12 of 13 letterwinners from a 2009-10 squad that won 23 games and advanced to the second round of the 2010 WNIT as an at-large entrant. ECU will tackle a tough schedule during the upcoming campaign which includes a trip to Hawai'i and a home contest against the University of Maryland.
"We have a challenging non-conference schedule to prepare us for the difficult C-USA slate," Macy added. "I hope Pirate fans will join us on our maiden voyage."
