WASHINGTON, D.C. - The East Carolina volleyball team ends non-conference play Saturday, battling Georgetown and Binghamton in its final matches of the Georgetown Classic at McDonough Arena. Match times are set for 1 and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
The Pirates' attempt for their first win of the 2010 campaign fell short Friday as Furman defeated ECU 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-18).
Juniors Amanda Lutzow and Jackie Varnum each recorded a team-high seven kills while senior Marina Gusman-Brown collected eight digs. Additionally, freshman Kasey Kavanaugh started her fourth-straight match and dished out 19 assists.
The Paladins held the advantage in every statistical category, including hitting (.314 to .133), kills (41-24), digs (42-24) and blocking (5.0-2.0). Furman also took advantage of the Pirates' passing effort, recording eight service aces.
The Pirates return to Minges Coliseum Sept. 25-26, hosting UTEP in a pair of Conference USA contests. Both matches are slated for 2 p.m.
