
Baseball Starts Fall Practice

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The 2011 edition of the East Carolina baseball team will open fall practice Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 8 at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium under the direction of sixth-year Head Coach Billy Godwin.
ECU, who finished the 2010 season with a 32-27 overall record, has made eight NCAA appearances in the last 10 seasons.
This year Godwin welcomes back 23 letterwinners including 2010 Conference USA Pitcher-of-the-Year and three-time first-team All C-USA selection Seth Maness. Joining Maness are All C-USA performers Zach Woods (2010 Newcomer-of-the-Year/2nd-team), Brad Mincey (2nd-team/ '09), Corey Thompson (2nd-team/ '10), Trent Whitehead (1st-team/ 2009) and John Wooten (freshman team/ '10).
Also stepping onto the diamond are 13 new faces, which consist of junior college transfers Michael Ussery (Ohlone) and Timothy Younger (St. Petersburg), as well as 11 true freshmen: Jacob Baker, Austin Blake, Austin Chrismon, William Connerley, Ben Fultz, Jonathan Holt, Joshua Lovick, Chase McDonald, Jack Reinheimer, Drew Reynolds and Dario Santangelo.
The Pirates will continue fall workouts until Tuesday, Oct. 5 when they play their annual three-game Purple-Gold World Series, which will be played at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
