GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's basketball team will host a silent auction on Saturday, Jan. 29, as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend. All the proceeds from the auction will stay in Eastern North Carolina to help support cancer patients and their families throughout the region.
The silent auction will take place inside the Murphy Center. Bidding starts at 5 p.m. and will continue through halftime of the Houston game, which tips off at 6 p.m. The highest bid on each bid sheet will be declared the winner and winning bidders will be notified the following day. There is no cost to participate in the silent auction.
"We all have a personal connection to cancer or know someone who has been affected by it," Pirate coach Jeff Lebo said. "Coaches vs. Cancer weekend is chance for the Pirate Nation to step up and help those who have been touched by this dreaded disease in our community."
Coaches vs. Cancer is a collaborative initiative of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers coaches, their teams and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
Basketball coaches nationwide will wear sneakers with their suits to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society this weekend, Jan. 28-30, and its vision of a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
