GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina University men's and women's basketball teams will be holding canned food drives to benefit the Pitt County Homeless Shelter.
The men's basketball team will hold its drive on Wednesday, Jan. 26, when it welcomes Southern Miss to Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum at 7 p.m., while the women's team will hold its food drive on Thursday, Jan. 27, when it hosts UAB at 7 p.m.
Fans that bring one canned food item can purchase a ticket for the men's game for only $5. Admission to the women's game with a canned goods item is free. Fans can bring donations of canned or non-perishable food items, such as canned vegetables, tuna, soups, pasta and rice. Collection bins will be situated at the ticket window outside the arena.
Fans wishing to avoid standing in line can bring their canned food donations and pick up their discounted tickets at the Athletic Ticket Office prior to 4 p.m. Wednesday.
ECU will also host "Take a Kid to the Game," on Saturday, Jan. 29 when the Pirates take on Houston at 6 p.m. Kids ages 17 and under are admitted free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
A silent auction will be held prior to the game as a part of Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend. All the proceeds will stay in Eastern North Carolina to help support cancer patients and their families. The bidding will open at 5 p.m. and will continue through halftime.
