East Carolina Head Coach Jeff Lebo
"Really for 30 minutes the best term that I could use for our play was funky. We turned it over, we didn't shoot the ball well and every time we had a chance to cut it to six or four we would make three or four bad plays, then all of a sudden it was back to 11. Then we would try it again and get it down and then it would go back to 11. I commend my group for competing to the very end.
"Coming down the stretch we finally got a couple buckets to go for us. Offensively we really didn't have a good flow and when you don't shoot the ball particularly well you don't get into a flow. The foul line helped us win the game; we got it inside and we got to the foul line."
On The Crowd
"The crowd at the end was gigantic. The last three or four minutes of the game, they gave us energy and may have rattled them a little coming down the stretch. We had a terrific student section and it was fun to play in that environment. They told me when I came here that it could be like that and you'd like to see that consistently. That was fun."
On coming from behind again
"We have been in those situations before; we've been down before. We just plugged away, plugged away."
On getting the ball inside
"We wanted to go inside and we were finally able to get the ball inside to [Darrius] Morrow in the right areas for him to score. That was big as was the ability to get to the foul line. You shoot 34 [free throws] in the game; you're supposed to win those games, if you shoot well from the foul line. Good teams find different ways to win; bad teams find different ways to lose. I'm not saying we're a good or bad team right now, but at least we found a different way to win a game and that was from the foul line when we didn't shoot the ball well from 3."
Houston Head Coach James Dickey
"Our senior point guard fouled out and not because of the hustle plays, but because of those cheap ill-advised fouls earlier in the game. You have to give them a lot of credit, but we certainly helped. [Coach Lebo] has done a nice job with his team, they played hard, they deserved to win, they made plays and we didn't. It's disappointing for us because this is our third in a row where we put ourselves in a position to win and just hadn't finished games; I've got to do a better job coaching."
On the closing minutes of the game
"We had done a good job of keeping the crowd out of the game because we had the lead and we were executing, I think they certainly played hard and made big plays. They hit some 3s, they pounded the offense glass and they got to the free throw line. We let them jam the ball inside to Morrow. They are very smart, well coached and they know what to do. They became more aggressive and played harder and I thought we got tentative."
"We just didn't execute, but I don't think there was any doubt that their guys played extremely hard, made plays and the crowd certainly helped them. Their crowd really got loud there as they cut the lead to three and then went ahead and took the lead. They finished the game out and we didn't."
Parity of League
"When you look at coach Lebo's ball club, his team is getting better and there's a lot of balance. It wouldn't surprise me on any night to see any team beat any other team because if you don't show up to finish the game in 40 minutes, you can get beat, no matter whether you're playing at home or on the road."
