Player of the Game
Darrius Morrow scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Morrow scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half and was 3-of-4 from the floor after halftime. He finished 5-of-8 for the game. Morrow was 6-of-8 from the free throw line in the second half and was 8-of-10 overall. Morrow's steal with 1:53 to go set up the possession that allowed East Carolina to take the lead.

With the Pirates trailing by six, sophomore Corvonn Gaines drove baseline, scored and got fouled. He went to the line and converted the free throw for a traditional three-point play.
Turning Point of the Game
After Alandise Harris drained a 3-pointer to give Houston a 66-57 lead with 4:02 to play, Brock Young answered with a 3-pointer for ECU which was followed by the first of two crowd-induced shot clock violations by the Cougars. Young's 3-pointer started a 14-0 run by the Pirates.
Stat of the Game
The ECU pep band chants "Free Throws Win Ball Games" before every Pirate attempt at the foul line. East Carolina made 28-of-34 free throws (82.4 percent) Saturday night, including 24-of-28 (85.7 percent) in the second half. Houston was just 13-of-19 (68.4 percent) for the game.

• East Carolina snapped a three-game losing streak to Houston and improved to 3-3 at Williams Arena/Minges Coliseum against the Cougars.
• The Pirates' earned their fourth Conference USA win of the season, equaling their total number of league victories last season.
