NEW ORLEANS, La. - East Carolina came up short Sunday, falling in three sets to Tulane at Fogelman Arena. The Pirates drop to 2-16 overall and 0-9 in Conference USA play as the Green Wave are now 7-12 and 1-7.

The first set was a back and forth affair at the beginning, but with the score 11-10 in favor of Tulane, the Green Wave found some momentum and scored 10-straight points to seize control. ECU made one last push and forced a timeout from the home side as a Cori Martone attack error made the score 22-15. The Pirates fought off three set points before eventually succumbing 25-19.
Tulane raced out to a 5-1 advantage in the second frame on a Nikki Osuna service ace, but East Carolina responded with three-straight points to pull within one. A Lutzow service error gave the Green Wave some breathing room at 13-8 and Tulane would keep siding out to cruise to a 25-16 victory and 2-0 match lead.
No team held more than a two-point advantage all the way throught the third interval. The Pirates edged to a 20-19 lead on a Lutzow kill, but a block gave the Green Wave a 21-20 cushion it would not relinquish as Tulane completed the sweep 25-23.
ECU returns to C-USA action Friday, Oct. 21 when it travels to Dallas, Texas for a match against SMU. First serve at Moody Coliseum is scheduled for 8 p.m.
