East Carolina will look to record its first win away from Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum Tuesday night as it faces Appalachian State at Time Warner Cable Arena at 7 p.m. ASU will make the return trip to Greenville next season.
The Pirates are 2-1 through three games this season with both of their wins coming at home against non-Division I opponents. They opened the season with a 56-point win over Milligan College before going on the road and sustaining a two-point loss at Campbell. ECU is coming off a 13-point victory over Coker on Thursday.
Missouri transfer Miguel Paul, who ranks among the top 8 in six Conference USA statistical categories, leads ECU on the season with 16.3 points and 6.3 assists per game, while senior forward Darrius Morrow adds 13.7 points and 5.7 boards per game. Sophomore Robert Sampson also tacks on 9.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
The Mountaineers come to Charlotte also at 2-1 on the season after a 68-63 win at Tennessee Tech on Saturday. Senior Omar Carter leads Appalachian State with 16.0 points per game, adding 6.7 rebounds. Jamaal Trice and Andre Williamson also post 15.7 and 10.7 points per game. Carter also adds 6.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists per outing.
Tuesday's contest will mark the first meeting between the Pirates and Mountaineers since 2001. The Pirates have won 30 of 46 meetings since the 1951-52 season. The game will match a pair of former North Carolina lettermen on opposite benches. ECU coach Jeff Lebo is a 1989 UNC graduate and ASU coach Jason Capel is a 2002 graduate.
After Tuesday's contest, the Pirates will return home to face Chowan at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26.
