GREENVILLE, N.C. - Shamarr Bowden scored a season-high17 points, leading four double-figure scorers for East Carolina as the Pirates ended Coastal Carolina's four-game winning streak, 76-51, on Monday night.
Miguel Paul added 15 points, Maurice Kemp 13 and Darrius Morrow 12 for the Pirates (6-4).
The Chanticleers came in with nine wins in 10 games, but were pushed around from the start by East Carolina. Coastal Carolina went up 1-0, but that would be the Chanticleers' last lead as Morrow's dunk and jumper helped put together a 6-0 run for the Pirates.
The lead steadily increased to 16-6 behind five straight points by Bowden. The Pirates pushed their lead to 14 on bucket by Morrow as they doubled up the Chanticleers, 28-14, with 5:13 left in the opening half. East Carolina led by 12 points at the break, 35-23.
The Pirates outscored Coastal Carolina 41-28 in the second half, opening the frame on a 12-3 to extend their lead to 22 points, 47-25, in less than five minutes. Bowden and Paul buried back-to-back 3s to give ECU a 20-point cushion.
Coastal Carolina answered with a 9-1 run to pull within 14, 48-34, with 12:49 to play but were never able to get inside its halftime deficit.
ECU finished shooting over 40 percent from the floor for a second straight game, after shooting less than 35 percent in the previous three games. The Pirates connected on 47.2 percent of its field goal attempts (25-53), while holding the Chanticleers to a season-low 36.4 percent (20-55).
East Carolina also forced Coastal Carolina into a season-high 19 turnovers, while committing a season-low 11 turnovers itself. The Pirates scored 26 points off its foe's miscues.
Anthony Raffa led the Chanticleers (9-2) with 14 points and Sam McLaurin added 11.
The Pirates return to action Thursday, Dec. 22 against Gardner-Webb. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
