ECU Places Fourth At Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. --- Junior Harold Varner posted a final round two-under par 70 to claim second-place and help the East Carolina men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the 42nd Annual Furman Intercollegiate on Sunday.
Varner carded a two-under for the second-straight round to finish nine-under par 207 (67-70-70), one stroke behind medalist William Sjaichudin of Purdue. Varner carded birdies on five holes Sunday, but three bogeys gave Sjaichudin the edge.
The Clemson men's golf team (287-289-272=848) fired a tournament record round of 272 (-16) to clinch its second straight Furman Intercollegiate title. The Tigers' Crawford Reeves (73-73-68=214) and McCuen Elmore (75-72-69=216) totaled rounds of 68 and 69, respectively, to power the Tigers past second-place Kennesaw State (-4) and third-place Virginia Tech (-2).
As a team the Pirates recorded two rounds of par during the weekend to finish at three-over 867 (288-291-288).
Junior David Watkins shot even-par for the third consecutive day to finish tied for 15th at par 216. Sophomore Zach Edmondson also shot par Sunday to finish at one-over 217 (69-76-72) tied for 20th.
East Carolina returns to the links April 8-9 at the River Landing Intercollegiate in Wallace, N.C.
