Gay Earns Conference USA Third-Team Honors

IRVING, Texas - Senior forward Kim Gay has been named to the 2011 Conference USA Third Team, according to a release by the league Sunday afternoon. The selection marks the ninth-straight campaign in which ECU has had an honoree.
Gay is the only player on the squad to start every game she has played this season while pacing the team in scoring (11.9 ppg) and rebounding (5.9 rpg). She has currently netted double figures in 14 of her last 15 games and 23 of her last 29 overall - including all but one league contest.
The Eastman, Ga., native is on track to become the school's all-time leader in the free throw percentage and is 61 for 76 (.803) from the line this season, good for fourth in the league. She was 8-for-9 against Maryland before draining six in as many attempts against Tulane and Rice.
As a forward, Gay is third on the team in three-point field goals made with 25 and knocked down a season-best three against Southern Miss in a 91-64 win in Greenville on Feb. 10. She also earned all-tournament honors at both the ninth-annual Pirate Invitational and the Iowa State Cyclone Challenge.
East Carolina opens the 2011 Buick Conference USA Championship as the five seed and will face No. 12 seed Tulsa Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.
