GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's basketball staff will hold its second-annual fall coaching clinic Saturday, Oct. 22 at Minges Coliseum.
This free event, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., will cover a variety of topics by way of question and answer sessions. Participants will also have the opportunity to view an open practice.
ECU women's basketball head coach Heather Macy is a well-known speaker at clinics around the nation. Her resume includes the prestigious Nike Championship Coaching Clinic, at which she will present her "Inter-State Offense" in September in Orlando, Fla. Macy has also been invited to Nike events in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Cleveland, Ohio and Wisconsin Dells, Wisc.
In her first year with the Pirates, Macy led the squad to a winning record for the third-straight season and a 9-7 mark in Conference USA play - good for a tie for fourth place in the league standings. She also guided the team to a win over eventual C-USA champion UCF in Greenville. ECU finished the campaign ranked in the top 50 nationally in scoring offense and assists per game (15.0).
As a whole, the East Carolina staff owns coaching experience at the highest levels. Fred Applin is regarded as one of the finest recruiters in the nation, having constantly built top 25 recruiting classes at North Carolina, Texas and Wake Forest. Ann Hancock was an integral part of the 1994 national championship Tar Heel squad as an assistant coach, while assistant Shay Hayes was a decorated and successful high school head coach in North Carolina before joining her alma mater in May. Additionally, director of basketball operations Kitara McMoore was a part of Macy's staff at Francis Marion and helped the Patriots to the Sweet Sixteen of the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
