East Carolina Head Coach Jeff Lebo
"We just got whipped. There is no way around sugar coating it. Physically we were not even in the area code tonight. We had match up problems obviously tonight. Rebounding issues, we knew we were going to have those. We've manage to hide them a little bit at times in games this year, but we're awfully small at the forward position with Kemp and Sampson. We had match up issues with Sykes, who just scored scored on us at will. Rompza is terrific, he makes them a different team now that he is back. He controlled the game I thought for 40 minutes. To me he was the best player on the court. He's a leader, and he made shots tonight."
On UCF's interior defense
"We got our shots blocked a lot. We got a lot deflected or block inside and early that intimidated us. They are big and athletic and we got in there at times in the first half, but just could not finish."
On UCF's run to start the second half
"We have trouble at times scoring. We put our best scorers on the court and they are 6'2, 6'2, 6'1 out there and can't get a rebound. We just were not good offensively for the majority of the time I didn't think. We had a couple looks that needed to go down but couldn't make them. We struggled the whole night offensively and all that had to do with their size and their length bothered us."
UCF Acting Coach Shawn Finney
"Just looking at the game tonight you got a great team effort on our part when you look at the guys who played well for us. Keith Clanton and Isaiah Sykes. Those guys came in and really gave us a big lift tonight. I've got to give our team credit. East Carolina kept punching us, they kept trying to make those quick runs on us and our guys played with a lot of poise. They really stayed focused down the stretch and I thought East Carolina, when they got us under pressure, was going to cause us some problems. But our guys handled it and were able to finish the game. I thought that was key on the way the game went down but you have to give A.J. Rompza some credit for running our show. He really got us into our offense, set the tone defensively, shared the ball as well as scored and I thought he was a big key to our victory tonight."
On UCF's post play
"When you come into the game obviously your concerned about Morrow and how the way he can score down low. When he gets deep post up he can really score the ball, but we did a good job of limiting his touches down low, not letting him get as many deep post ups. We also wanted to try to get the ball inside and try to make them guard us in the post and try to create some opportunities where they may foul us and get in foul trouble down low as well."
On the play of Keith Clanton
"Keith Clanton's versatility is a big key to his game. He can score inside, outside, he's got the mid-range game, he can put it on the floor and that makes him a tough guard for someone else. Keith is one of the guys that we want to go to whether that is shoot a three or post up, and with his versatility we want to create miss matches with his perimeter game."
ECU Senior Darrius Morrow
"Central Florida is a good team. They are big; the zone they play is tough. I think we just had a tough night. Nights like this happen and we are just looking forward to next Saturday."
On ECU's poor shooting performance
"It just happens. We had been shooting the ball pretty well lately. I guess we were due for an off night, but we are not going to hang our heads. We are looking forward to our next game and next couple of practices. We have a lot of practices until the next game and we are just going to shake back after this loss."
ECU Junior Miguel Paul
"We had a bad shooting night. I don't think they out-muscled us or anything like that. They played hard and got a lot of the 50-50 balls that we didn't get, including some rebounds that we let stick around that we could have grabbed. We got the shots that we wanted; we just didn't knock most of them down."
