
Pirate Volleyball to Play Host to Houston

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina volleyball team returns to Minges Coliseum to host Conference USA foe Houston Friday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. The Pirates are looking to get on the winning track and record their first conference victory.
The Pirates (1-16, 0-6 C-USA) are coming off of a 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 8-25, 21-25) loss at Marshall last Friday in which they played the Thundering Herd to four sets and averaged 19 points per game.
East Carolina and Houston (4-13, 3-4 C-USA) will meet for the 15th time in program history and the Cougars lead the all-time series 13-1. The only time the Pirates came away with a victory was in 2006 when they defeated Houston, 3-1.
ECU is led defensively by Shelby Beasley who has totaled a team-best 266 digs and is averaging 4.29 digs per set which is good for fifth in the conference. Against conference opponents, Beasley is averaging 5.59 digs per set which ranks her second in the league. Nicole Willis is the offensive team leader as the junior right side has knocked down 170 kills to average 3.47 kills per set. She has also tallied 138 digs (2.82 digs per set), 24 total blocks, and 12 service aces. Junior Hannah Allgood has recorded 125 kills and 177 digs to help pace the Pirates, while senior Kelly Derby leads the team in blocks with 70 to average 1.13 blocks per set which ranks fourth in Conference USA. Sophomore Zarah Cecich has tallied 349 assists to average 6.71 assists per set, while junior Kasey Kavanaugh has amassed 162 assists for a 4.15 assists per set average.
