GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina volleyball team will close out the 2012 campaign with a match against Tulane on Sunday, Nov. 11. The match, which is set for 1 p.m., is also senior Kelly Derby's last contest with the Pirates as she will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the match.
In addition to Senior Day, East Carolina is having an 11/11 at 1 p.m. for $1 promotion where admission is just $1.00 for fans. All ECU students and youth (under 17 years of age) will receive free admission.
The Pirates are 1-25 on the year and hold an 0-15 Conference USA ledger. ECU is coming off a four-set less to UTEP in which the Pirates fell by scores of 19-25, 14-25, 25-23, 20-25. In that contest, Nicole Willis led ECU for the ninth consecutive match and 19th time overall with 15 kills and added three digs with a trio of blocks. Sophomore setter Zarah Cecich had a strong performance for the Pirates as she hit .700 with seven kills on 10 attempts without committing an error. She also totaled 25 assists in the contest. Shelby Beasley led the team with 14 digs, while Hannah Allgood chipped in 13, and Erika Figueroa added nine to lead the ECU defense. Virginia Fitch guarded the net as she put up a match-high six total blocks, while Derby contributed three.
East Carolina and Tulane will meet for the 14th time in program history and the Pirates are looking for their first win as the Green Wave leads the all-time series 13-0. Last season Tulane swept ECU on Oct. 16, in New Orleans, La., then edged the Pirates, 3-2, on Oct. 28, in Greenville.
