Player Post-Game Interviews
East Carolina Head Coach Jeff Lebo
"That was a great win tonight. Rice has got a good basketball team, and they were coming in with a lot of confidence. They have a road win against Texas A&M, a team that was preseason picked to win their league. Offensively, we were really solid tonight; we had great balance. It was great to see Corvonn Gaines make some shots and play with confidence. We did a terrific job on the two guys that we needed to stop, (Arsaian) Kazemi and (Connor) Frizzelle. We had a little unexpected shooting from some guys at Rice, (Dylan) Ennis and (Tamir) Jackson. Give them credit, those two guys played awfully well. We did a good job defensively and overcame a lot of things. We had foul problems with (Darrius) Morrow, but we had a lot of guys that stepped up and played big for us. Robert Sampson had some big rebounds for us and really defended well when Morrow was out. He did a good job on Kazemi in the post there."
Rice Head Coach Ben Braun
"When we got the ball to the rim we needed to score and get fouled, and I think we did a poor job of that. We've got to be tougher on that, but give ECU credit because they took advantage of some breakdowns and kept the ball inside with Darrius Morrow. They got us into some early foul trouble and having Arsalan (Kazemi) out the first half really aided their cause and hurt ours in terms of the rebounding department and he really never got over that."
Junior Corvonn Gaines
"I was just patient. Today was a great day for me, I just felt good out there. It's a big team win for us and we just pulled through today."
Junior Maurice Kemp
"Whenever you get a dunk as your first bucket it gets you going a little bit so I just wanted to bring energy the whole night. I also wanted to focus on rebounding a little bit more. I slacked off the last couple games so that was a point of emphasis and I think I did a very good job."
