ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo
"Obviously the athleticism, speed, and quickness that Memphis possesses bothers a lot of people and it certainty bothered us. Defensively they were outstanding. Their defensive numbers are off the chain. Number one in Conference USA in field goal percent defense. They're up there nationally in a lot of defensive categories and they really defended us well. We struggled to get everything that we got. Then when we did get some shots we missed a lot of them. We got a lot blocked at the rim. We made a run in the second half and then have two or three in a row, untimely, odd turnovers. We just lost the ball a couple times when we had a little bit of momentum going, but they are very talented. One thing they're doing this year is defending. They're really hard to get shots against."
"They try to take your point guard out of it and make him work. We don't really have any ball handlers besides Miguel and they did a nice job making him work. Their athletic [forwards] in the back can double team a point guard and get back to their man pretty quickly. That bothered us. It's hard to simulate those guys running at you in practice so it's a different speed."
Memphis Head Coach Josh Pastner
"Obviously all wins are good. I thought we did some positive things. I thought we had good energy for 40 minutes. We were sloppy at times in the second half, which is something we need to get better at. I thought they kicked our butt on the 50-50 balls. You see they had 16-10 on second chance points and they out-rebounded us. We have to be better than that but all wins are good. I have the utmost respect for Coach Lebo. I just think his teams are so well coached. They do such a great job at spacing the floor. They are such a dangerous team because they can shoot it, they have good guard play, and they have a really good inside guy in Morrow and like I said, the way he runs his stuff with spacing, its hard to play him. They do some good stuff but we were fortunate enough to get the W."
ECU senior Darrius Morrow
On his effectiveness in the paint
"Yes that is my game. It was tough because they had a double team on Miguel that took a lot of time off of the shot clock. By the time we got in our offense we had half of a shot clock and we had to make do with what we were given."
ECU junior Miguel Paul
On Memphis' full court pressure
"We thought they were going to run a zone trap, not to actually take me out of the play. It was hard to prepare for that and their speed. I think I did a pretty good job getting the ball up, they just slowed it down. They are an athletic team at every spot and they made us work. "
