Series Notes
- East Carolina improved to 4-8 all-time against Houston and 4-3 versus the Cougars inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
- The Pirates have won two of the last three meetings in the series and three of the last four in Greenville.
Career/Season Highs
- Senior Maurice Kemp scored a career-high with 30 points. His previous high was 25 against Virginia-Wise (12/31/11). He also made a career-high 13 field goals. He also surpassed the 600-point mark during his ECU career (606).
- Junior Ty Armstrong tied a career-high with a season-best 12 rebounds. He also had 12 rebounds as a freshman at Auburn against Alabama A&M.
- East Carolina committed a season-low five turnovers, just one in the second half.
Miscellaneous Notes
- With the victory, East Carolina moved to 2-1 in Conference USA play. Its the first time the Pirates have had a winning C-USA ledger through three games.
- East Carolina won its third straight Conference USA home game dating back to last season.
- Maurice Kemp became the fifth ECU player to score 30 points in a Conference USA game ( Darrell Jenkins 2, Sam Hinnant, Brock Young, Darrius Morrow). Three of the Pirates' six 30-point performances have been against Houston ( Darrell Jenkins 31, 2007; Sam Hinnant 30, 2008; Maurice Kemp 30, 2013).
- Kemp is the first player to score 30 points in a game since Darrius Morrow scored 33 at Marshall in 2011.
- East Carolina's five turnovers were its fewest since only committing four turnovers against South Florida in 2003.
- The Pirates' 59 second half points were the third-most scored in a single half this season. ECU had 64 in the first half against St. Andrews and 61 in the second half versus North Carolina.
- East Carolina scored over 80 points for the ninth time this season an disproved to 6-3 in those games. The Pirates scored 80 in nine games total the previous two seasons.
- East Carolina won its 999th game.
- The Pirates handed out 20-plus assists for the sixth time in seven games.
