East Carolina Head Coach Jeff Lebo
Opening Statement
"I'd like to congratulate Buzz and his team. I thought they played awfully well tonight and they exploited our weakness, which obviously is inside. The difference in the game was paint touches. Whether it was them getting it inside to their big guys or on offensive rebounds. We shot the ball really poorly, we've got to shoot it well and when our two shooters go 4 for 20 from three, we're going to have a tough night when that happens. Caleb White played really well on the offensive end it gave us another scorer out there shooting it with confidence. Brandan Stith was aggressive rebounding the basketball, but he was playing against a man tonight; one day he'll be the man. I thought Cedrick Williams was outstanding tonight, I thought he was best player on the floor."
On the last play
"It was designed trying to get to the rim. We got there with speed and got what we wanted, [Cedrick] Williams just made a great play. That was good offense, good defense and a blocked shot at the end."
On the effect of Marshall Guilmette's absence
"When we go small we have to be able to make shots. We have to shoot it; we've got pressure on us to make perimeter shots each and every night. If we can make them, we force them (the other team) to go small; we don't have to worry about (their big guys). If we don't make them, they can play their big guys and we're going to have a problem on the other end defensively because we're just too small."
On Caleb White's game by game improvement
"He's efficient. He doesn't turn the ball over, he's one of our better shooters and he plays with some confidence. He's going to be a really good player once he gets stronger. He's got a good basketball I.Q. He takes good shots."
UNCW Head Coach Buzz Peterson
Opening Statement
"Number one we're very fortunate to get this win. I thought that was a great college basketball game for both teams. We are just very fortunate to get the win. We came into this ballgame having a tough loss the other night against Stephen F. Austin who is a very good club. That kind of helped us get a little hungry for this one. Jeff's team shoots the ball extremely well from outside. We were very concerned about the two kids who can shoot it and these young kids seem like they're getting better and better inside, so there was a lot of concern. He (Coach Lebo) played zone, we played zone. I think both of us go back we don't play a lot of zone but the way the game is called now you kind of have to do that; his bench is a little thin so I think that helped us out a little bit going down the stretch."
ECU Junior Guard Paris Roberts-Campbell
On the main difference on losing a close game
"I think they just outplayed us tonight. We fought hard at the end, but I think we learned that we have to put a full 40 minutes together if we want to win these games."
ECU Freshman Forward Caleb White
On his shooting performance
"I came into the game with a lot of confidence in it but I was trying to hit open shots. We have guards that penetrate well so I was just trying to step in and make shots."
On being a starter
"I just want to step in and help out in any way or whatever role that is. I guess you could say I'm getting used to it now but there are a lot of things I've got to get better with that will bring more time."
