PROVIDENCE, R.I. - East Carolina redshirt junior Jada Payne has been named the American Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week, according to an announcement by the league office Monday.
Payne recorded her third straight 20-point game and matched her season high with 24 on 8-for-10 shooting, including 4-for-5 from three-point range, in ECU's 82-33 win at Loyola (Md.) last Tuesday night. Her four triples made gave her 100 for her career, as she became just the eighth player in program history to reach that mark.
The Hickory, N.C., native ranks second in The American with 18.7 points per game, third in three-point field goal percentage (.536) and sixth in overall field goal percentage (.493) this season. Payne's 30 connections from beyond the arc are the second most among American Conference players, while her 53.6-percent clip stands seventh among all NCAA Division I shooters
Senior post player Ondrea Shaw was listed to the conference's weekly honor roll after blocking a career-high 10 shots at Loyola (Md.) Tuesday night, the most by an NCAA Division I player in a single game this season. Shaw is also the fourth different Pirate to receive the recognition this season, joining juniors DeVaughn Gray (Nov. 17), Payne (Nov. 24 and Dec. 8) and I'Tiana Taylor (Dec. 1).
East Carolina (8-2) returns to action Saturday, Dec. 20 when it hosts Norfolk State in its final non-conference game of the season. Opening tip is scheduled for 5 p.m., in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
