GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's basketball team will host UTEP Thursday night at 9 p.m. and fans are encouraged to wear black to create a "Blackout" inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. The first 1,000 students into the arena will receive a free black headband courtesy of Coca-Cola.
Students living on campus are encouraged to meet at Todd Dining Hall for pregame activities and then "March to Minges" for the game. All participating students will have the opportunity to register for a chance to win free room and board for a semester or a $200 book voucher.
The 2013 Beef O'Brady's Bowl champion Pirates will be recognized at halftime and fans will be able to take their picture alongside the championship trophy inside Gate 3 of Minges Coliseum starting at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are only $15 and can be purchased at the ECU Athletic Ticket Office or online at the ECU Online Ticker Center. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and purchase tickets in advance (though tickets will be available at the gate). Doors to the arena open at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1 and can be heard throughout eastern North Carolina across the Pirate IMG Sports Network.
The Pirates are coming off a 74-67 win at UAB on Saturday, while the Miners enter the contest on a six-game winning streak. UTEP bested the Pirates a year ago by tossing in a 3-pointer just inside of midcourt at the buzzer for a 68-67 win.
ECU will continue its color themed promotions on Saturday as the Pirates face UTSA at 5 p.m. It's "Rock Your Colors" Day and fans are encouraged to "Paint It Purple" by wearing their purple ECU gear. The first 500 fans will receive a purple foam finger. Faculty and staff members can purchase discounted tickets for $5.
The halftime festivities will include the introductions of former Pirate letterwinners, who are back for Lettermen's Weekend, as well as this year's baseball team.
