GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina freshman Charlie Yorgen has been named Conference USA's Hitter-of-the-Week after helping the Pirates to a perfect 4-0 week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Yorgen batted a team-best .538 (7-for-13) among ECU's starters during its perfect week, which extended its winning streak to seven-straight games. He led the team with a .692 slugging and .625 on-base percentage, while sharing the team lead in hits (7) and RBI (5).
The Richmond, Va. native collected at least one hit in all four games and also drove in one run in three of four contests, including a career-high three in game one of the UMBC doubleheader Friday afternoon. Yorgen also added three walks and did not strike out on the week. He capped off his stellar week collecting his first career game-winning RBI with a run-scoring triple in the eighth inning Sunday afternoon to lift ECU to a non-conference series sweep.
Yorgen is the second Pirate to earn C-USA weekly honors following Jeff Hoffman's honor on March 3. He and the Pirates will be back in action this week when they travel to instate rival NC State (April 2) and Rice (April 4-6).
