GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina head volleyball coach Julie Torbett and her staff held open tryouts earlier this month at Minges Coliseum and as a result added freshman defensive specialist Megan Williams to the 2014 roster. Williams will join the Pirates from Durham School of the Arts where she played three years of varsity volleyball.
"Megan is a great addition to our team," Torbett said. "She will compete for playing time in the back row with our other talented defensive specialists."
During her prep career, Williams earned all-conference honors as a senior and was a two-time Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior. She was named to the Graham Invitational All-Tournament Team during her sophomore and junior seasons. She also served as a team captain for two years.
Additionally, Williams also saw action for the North Carolina Elite Volleyball 18 Black Club team under head coach Shaun Dyk. She helped her squad finish second at the 2014 Queen City Classic.
Williams and the Pirates will kick off the 2014 campaign with the East Carolina Invitational beginning Friday, September 5 against Tennessee Tech at 1 p.m.
