
Hawkins Named Jim Thorpe Defensive Back-of-the-Week

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - East Carolina junior Josh Hawkins has been named the Jim Thorpe Defensive Back-of-the-Week following his two-interception game at then-No. 17 Virginia Tech the Oklahoma Sport Hall of Fame announced Wednesday.
Hawkins led a Pirate defense that limited the Hokies to 21 points by picking off a pair of Michael Brewer first half passes, which came on successive possessions. His two interceptions were the most in a single game since Chip Thompson picked off two against UTEP (Sept. 29, 2012) - a span of 24 games.
The Winston-Salem, N.C. native added eight tackles, one tackle for loss and a pass breakup helping East Carolina to its first win in Blacksburg, Va., since 1991.
Hawkins, who ranks second nationally with three pass thefts, has five for his career to go along with 10 career pass breakups.

- College Sports Madness National Defensive Player-of-the-Week
The Pirates (2-1) will wrap up their non-conference schedule playing host to instate rival North Carolina (2-0) inside a sold out Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. (EDT) and will be televised on ESPNU.
