GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina volleyball team suffered its third consecutive loss Friday night as American Athletic Conference foe UCF posted a 3-0 (25-12, 26-24, 25-16) win over the Pirates inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum .
Sophomore Ashton Mares led the Pirates' attack with 12 kills and 11 digs for her sixth consecutive double-double. Lauren Bewick added 15 digs, while Erika Figueroa also had 11 digs. Sabrina Gonzalez registered 24 assists.
The Pirates (10-10, 3-6) were unable to overcome the precise hitting of the Knights, who hit over .350 in each of the first two sets. UCF finished the game hitting .289, while ECU hit a mere .102. Jale Hervey led the Knights (11-11, 5-5) with 11 kills.
"I'm obviously very disappointed," Pirate head coach Julie Torbett said. "I expect better out of my team. I felt like there were moments when we were executing the game plan and knew what we wanted to do, but UCF did a good job of taking our middles out, which made it really hard for them to score.
"We're going to bounce back. you won't see that same team for sure. We have six seniors on the team and they know that's not acceptable."
East Carolina will return to the court on Sunday, Oct. 25, as it host USF beginning at 1 p.m. in its annual Dig Pink game. Any fan wearing pink can purchase a ticket for $2 and the first 100 fans will receive a pink pom-pom
