ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo
Opening statement
"I thought the game was not a very good offensive display of shooting the basketball, by really either team, but we're lucky to win that game shooting 31 percent, but we found a way to gut it out. I thought we did some good things coming down the stretch. Freshman Kentrell Barkley, I thought was terrific in the game; he made some big plays for us. We really struggled - B.J. [Tyson] really struggled. He's going to have pressure on himself every night I think, to be able to play well because we're going to need some points and some consistency out of him. He's really had a tough game, but thank God there's a game on Monday, hopefully he'll play better. Caleb [White] was terrific. He was efficient as he always is; 21 points. The difference in the game was us being able to get to the free throw line, that was a big difference. To give them credit, I thought [Michael] Bethea was terrific shooting the basketball; didn't know anything about him; six three's and he made some big timely ones, but give credit to my guys. The game game got tight late, and we made some plays, and kind of got a little cushion there with three minutes to go in the game."
On Caleb's expanding role
"I want to see him be able to drive the ball. We're struggling to score so much, our best offensive lineup is our small lineup, and we moved him to the four. We had to play Kentrell and him together at the three and the four. He did a good job of finding open seams there at times, and made a couple of extra passes there against their 1-3-1 zone."
On Grambling's 1-3-1 zone
"We didn't know what they were going to play, they threw that out at us and we hadn't really practiced much against that. That was something that was really new. I thought our kids really attacked it pretty well. And give them credit. They did a lot of change in the defenses, that's hard to play against."
On missed opportunities
"We had plenty of opportunities. We missed so many easy shots around the basket that we could not finish. Or we got fouled on layups and make one of two instead of making a three point play. Those things start to add up and affect the game. We've got to be able to finish a little bit better."
On Kanu Aja's play
"I thought Kanu did a nice job of coming in and rebounding the ball for us in the second half. I thought that was a bright spot for us."
On point guard play
"Our point guard play wasn't what we need it to be, but I know it'll get better here on Monday."
Freshman Kentrell Barkley
On his personal performance in second half
"Just trying to do my job and try to be a leader out there on the court by helping my team as much as possible."
On playing his first college game
"It's about business, no nerves should get in the way. It's amazing, I never felt this way before. Just to come out and be able to help my team made it even better."
Junior Caleb White
On the keys to the second half
"(Kentrell) fueled it . He got a couple of steals in our 2-2-1 press and got a couple of offensive boards; that kind of rises people up and gets everyone going. You move a little faster, you get a couple more shots, you defend a little bit harder, so he ignited everything in my eyes."
On Grambling
"They played hard. We turned it over, we didn't make shots so we sort of shot ourselves in the foot a lot there, not to take anything away from them of course, but we made a lot of mistakes that we'll have to adjust in the next practice and practice on Sunday to get ready for Monday so hopefully we have a better showing."
