ECU Host Charlotte Looking For Two In A Row

After opening the season with a 61-53 win at home over Grambling State on Friday, East Carolina will host Charlotte Monday night inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum looking for its second straight win to start the year and in the series, which would also be career victory 300 for coach Jeff Lebo.
The game will be televised on the American Sports Network and streamed live on ESPN3. It will also be carried live on the Pirate-IMG Sports Network and ECUPirates.com.
The Pirates will for its first 2-0 start since 2013-14 after beginning last season 1-1 with an opening night win and a Nov. 16 loss to an instate opponent, UNC Asheville.
East Carolina trailed midway through the second half, before a 10-0 spurt propelled the Pirates to an 11-point lead with 3:24 to play en route to its 15th consecutive season-opening win despite shooting 31.1 percent.
"We're lucky to win that game shooting 31 percent," Lebo said following the game. "But we found a way to gut it out. I thought we did some good things coming down the stretch."
Junior wing Caleb White had a game-high 21 points for East Carolina, which made 42 trips to the free throw line compared to eight by Grambling. The Pirates sank 29 foul shots with a 44-32 rebounding edge - 13 coming on the offensive end.
"It's a team effort when anybody that's not playing as well as they normally play," White said. "Luckily, we all pulled together and pulled out a W."
Freshman Kentrell Barkley added eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds with four additional players scoring six or more points.
East Carolina has trails 15-7 in the all-time series with the 49ers, but have won two of the last three meetings in Greenville including the most recent match-up Feb. 27, 2014.
The Pirates haven't won two in a row over Charlotte since winning the first three meetings in the series from 1981-83.
The 49ers, led by new head coach Mark Price, fell to Elon in their season-opener, 85-74. Ridell Camidge had 18 points to lead a trio of players in double figures.
