GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina junior Davis Plowman has been named American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player-of-the-Week according to an announcement by the league office Monday.
The Roswell, Ga. native scored a career-high 14 points to help ECU to a 44-7 win at UCF in front of a nationally-televised audience on ESPN. Plowman connected on all three field goals (45, 36, 36 yards) and was 5-for-5 on PATs against the Knights. On the season, Plowman had made 9-of-11 field goals, including eight of his last nine, while converting 36-of-37 PATs.
Plowman is the third Pirate to take home league weekly honors this season following Montese Overton (Oct. 5) and Josh Hawkins' (Oct. 19) selections last month.
Junior Blake Kemp, who earned AAC Honor Roll status for the week, was one of eight quarterbacks named Manning "Stars-of-the-Week". The Chandler, Ariz. native completed 35-of-50 passes and established career-highs in pass yards (465) and touchdown throws (four) against the Knights.
His 465-yard effort ranked as the second-highest single-season passing total in school history, trailing on Shane Carden's mark of 480 (vs. Tulane on Oct. 12, 2013). The passing yardage currently ranks as the 18th-highest total turned in by a FBS quarterback this year. Kemp's four TD strikes were the most by an ECU QB since Carden had four against Tulsa, SMU and North Carolina in 2014.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting. College football fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to VOTE for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Wednesday at 11 a.m. (Central), the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.
East Carolina (5-6, 3-4 AAC) will play host to Cincinnati (6-5-3-4 AAC) Saturday, Nov. 28 inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12 Noon (EST) and will be nationally-televised on CBS Sports Network.
