November 09, 2015 | Volleyball
GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina junior middle hitter Ashley McRae has been named to the American Athletic Conference volleyball weekly honor roll, according to an announcement by the league office Monday. The accolade marks the first weekly recognition for McRae in her career.
McRae averaged 3.25 kills per set and hit a stout .458 in two matches over the weekend. She tallied seven digs and a block assist in the Pirates' match at USF Friday before exploding for a career-high 19 kills in a 3-2 victory at UCF Sunday that snapped the Knights' five-match winning streak. McRae made just three errors in 35 attempts to finish with a .457 hitting percentage as well as racking up four blocks (one solo).
In the fifth set of Sunday's contest, McRae notched five kills on seven attempts with no errors and fittingly accounted for the final two kills of the match.
The Silver Spring, Md., native paces the ECU offense in hitting percentage (.295) while ranking third on the squad in blocks per set (0.72).
East Carolina returns home for a pair of AAC matches next weekend against Memphis and Cincinnati. The contest with the Tigers, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 13, serves as the front end of a doubleheader with the men's basketball team. The volleyball Pirates will look to set a program single-match attendance record that evening.
