December 19, 2015 | Men's Basketball
GREENVILLE, N.C. --- East Carolina will look to earn its first road win of the year Sunday as it crosses state lines to take on James Madison at the Convocation Center in Harrisonburg, Va., at 2 p.m.
Sunday's game will not be televised but can be heard across the Pirate-IMG Sports Network on WNCT 1070 AM locally, with the "Voice of the Pirates" Jeff Charles and Si Seymour calling all the action. Fans will be able to watch a live stream of the game through MadiZONE HD Sports Net and follow along with live scoring on Statbroadcast.com. Game updates will be available on Twitter via@ECUScoreboard.
The Pirates are coming off a 78-73 win over UNCW Wednesday night. Sophomore B.J. Tyson (21) and junior Caleb White (20) combined for 41 points to help ECU overcome an 11-point deficit. Using a 19-8 run, East Carolina took the lead for good with 10:20 to play and led by eight with six seconds to play. The Pirates forced UNCW into a terrible shooting night as the Seahawks went 3 for 25 outside the arc.
The Pirates also took advantage their free throw opportunities, going 35 of 51 (.686) from the charity stripe. ECU connected on 17 of 22 foul shots in the second half after missing 11 of 29 before halftime.
James Madison will enter Sunday's contest on a six-game winning streak, but haven't played a game since taking down George Mason eight days ago. The Dukes will be looking to give eighth-year head coach Matt Brady his 200th career win.
JMU is led by the trio Shakir Brown, Ron Curry and Dimitrije Cabarkapa. Brown is the Dukes' leading scorer (14.4 ppg) and rebounder (7.0 rpg). Curry ranks second on the squad in scoring (13.9 ppg) and has distributed a team-high 39 assists this season. Cabarkapa is the only other player to average double figures with 11.4 points per game.
East Carolina will look to secure back-to-to wins over JMU for the first time since sweeping the season series during the 1997-98 campaign. The Pirates posted a 70-58 win in Greenville last year with Terry Whisnant leading the way with 24 points and White adding 16.
James Madison has a 33-13 advantage in the all-time with 43 of those games played between 1983-2001 as members of the ECAC-South and Colonial Athletic Association.
ECU is making its first visit to Harrisonburg for the first time since 2000 after playing there 18 consecutive season as a conference opponent before leaving the CAA in 2001.
