PROVIDENCE, R.I. - East Carolina freshman guard B.J. Tyson was a unanimous selection to the American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team, as voted upon by the league's 11 head coaches the conference announced Tuesday.
Tyson is joined on the team by UConn's Daniel Hamilton, also a unanimous selection, Cincinnati's Gary Clark and UCF's duo of Adonys Henriquez and B.J. Taylor.
Tyson won Rookie-of-the-Week honors four times and led all conference freshmen in scoring with 12.483 ppg. He was the only freshman to rank among the top 10 in scoring as well as the top 15 in field goal percentage and free throw percentage.
He ranks 12th in scoring (11.6 ppg., 1st among freshmen) and field goal percentage (.466, 3rd among freshmen) in conference play. He has scored in double figures 21 times this season, including eight of the last 11 games. Tyson also led all American conference freshmen with five 20-point performances during the season.
The eighth-seeded Pirates, who finished tied for seventh-place with Tulane, open American Athletic Conference Championship tournament play Thursday against No. 9 seed UCF at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
