Macy Summer Session Blog VIII: Positive Energy
July 17, 2015 | Women's Basketball
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina women's basketball head coach Heather Macy provides some of her thoughts and insights into the team's progress during the second session of summer workouts. Be sure to check back at the beginning of each week for the latest updates.
"For the past week, our big thing has been positive energy and how we are bringing that to workouts. From a strength and conditioning standpoint, Coach (Robert) Tate has been doing a great job elevating what we're doing and the kids are working hard. Now, we are making sure everyone has a positive outlook on everything that we are doing.
"I have seen a ton of progress with every player during individual basketball workouts. I'm seeing everyone continue to grow and get better, and that's what our summer sessions are all about. We are winding down with the final couple of weeks, all of the kids will be able to have superior confidence even after they go home and get away for a few weeks visiting with their families. Once they're back, we will be ready to rock and roll.
"The big thing is that the foundation has been built over both summer sessions, so our players won't lose the mental toughness that they're gaining. What I think they will be able to do is recharge and be around positive people in their lives such as friends and family and value the time that they are able to spend with them. I hope they enjoy every day they are able to do that and also get a break from the books because Fall, Spring, Summer I and Summer II is a lot of school so a break from the academics is definitely necessary.
"Next week will be a littler shorter in terms of basketball training with our coaches out of town recruiting again. That is truly where our 'Team Within the Team' that includes Robert Tate, (athletic trainer) Ashley Anderson, (video coordinator) Nicole Mealing and (director of operations) Dee Pennix do such a good job of being visible for the players and handling a lot of the things the coaching staff is used to doing. We really appreciate them this time of year because they make it much easier for us to balance being on the road and not missing a beat. This is a really special group and a special team we are going to have for the upcoming season."
