
Williams Garners John Mackey Honorable Mention Honors

NEW YORK, N.Y. - East Carolina senior Bryce Williams has been named honorable mention John Mackey Tight End-of-the-Week according to an announcement by the John Mackey Committee Wednesday.
A preseason watch list candidate for the John Mackey Award, which is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, Williams hauled in a career-best nine passes for a personal-best 83 yards and a touchdown last weekend at Florida in a 31-24 setback.
Williams had seven receptions in the second half for 64 yards and scored his 10th career touchdown, first of the season, on a seven-yard grab in the fourth period from Blake Kemp. In all, four of his nine catches went for 10 or more yards (10, 14, 16, 17).
On the season, he has hauled down 12 passes for 114 yards (9.5 ypc) to rank second on the team behind Isaiah Jones' 20 receptions for 212 yards.
The 2015 John Mackey recipient will be announced on Dec. 9, 2015 and then presented live on Dec. 10 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. Other key dates include the announcement of the 2015 Mackey Midseason Watch List on Oct. 12, the 2015 Mackey Semi-finalists on Nov. 16 and the 2015 Mackey Finalists on Nov. 24.
The Pirates (1-1) will open American Athletic Conference play this weekend against Navy (1-0) at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. (EDT) and will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
