
Pirates Go for Third Straight Win Against Houston

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- East Carolina will go after its third straight win Saturday at noon as it host Houston in an American Athletic Conference game inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
Fans are encouraged to wear their purple for this Paint It Purple event. The five-time World Champion Bouncing Bulldogs jump rope team will be performing at halftime and also host a clinic inside Minges Coliseum after the women's game against Temple, which begins at approximately 2:30 p.m.
ECU is coming off a 64-61 win over Temple on Wednesday after taking down Memphis at the FedExForum Sunday. The Pirates (10-11, 2-6 The American) scored the game-winning points in each game inside of five seconds to play. Prior to the Memphis game, the Pirates had lost six straight to open conference play.
Senior Prince Williams has averaged 19.0 points in each of the past two games and posted his first career double-double at Memphis Sunday. Williams made two free throws with 4.1 seconds left to give ECU its first road win over the Tigers.
Three days later, freshman Kentrell Barkley grabbed a loose ball and scored with 1.8 seconds to play to propel the Pirates to their first win over Temple. Barkley finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He averaged 14 points and seven rebounds in the two wins.
Houston (14-6, 4-4) snapped it four-game losing streak with a 15-point win over Tulsa Wednesday night. The Cougars hit on 46.6 (27-of-58) percent of its field goals against the Golden Hurricane. Freshman Galen Robinson poured in a career-high 19 points and forward Devonta Pollard added 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cougars.
Pollard ranks second on the Cougars in scoring (12.5 ppg) behind American Athletic Conference scoring leader Rob Gray, Jr. with 16.6 points per game. Houston is third in the league in scoring with 77.7 ppg and lead the conference with 14.3 offensive rebounds per game.
Houston leads the all-time series, 10-5, but East Carolina has won three straight over the Cougars at home and owns a 5-3 advantage inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
