February 12, 2016 | Men's Basketball
CINCINNATI --- East Carolina looks to end a three-game losing streak and get back in the win column Saturday at 4 p.m. against Cincinnati inside Fifth-Third Arena. The Pirates will be going for their second straight win over the Bearcats posting a 50-46 win at home on Super Bowl Sunday last season.
Two of East Carolina's last three games have gone to double overtime or beyond, but the results were not in favor of ECU. The Pirates fell to Houston in double overtime two weeks before Tulane outlasted them in triple overtime Wednesday.
B.J. Tyson and Prince Williams each scored 25 points and Kentrell Barkley posted a double-double with 20 points and a career-high 14 rebounds against the Green wave.
Williams has scored over 20 or more points in three of the last five games, including each of the last two. During those five games he's averaged 20.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game and has moved into the top-10 in the conference in free throw percentage (10th) and 3-point field goal percentage (6th).
With his recent scoring performances, Williams is now averaging double figures for the season as is Barkley, who has posted 14.2 ppg since moving into the starting lineup. B.J. Tyson, who ranks fifth in the conference in scoring, leads the Pirates with 15.5 pgg followed by Caleb White (12.3 ppg), Barkley (10.3 ppg) and Williams (10.1 ppg).
East Carolina is one of four teams in The American with four double digit scorers.
Troy Caupain is one of two Bearcats, averaging double figures with 11.5 ppg. Farad Cobb is the team's second leading scorer with 11.4 ppg. Caupain has the second-best assist-to-turnover ratio in the conference, while Cobb is second in steals per game, third in 3-pointers made and fourth in 3-point percentage.
Gary Clark, a native of Clayton, N.C., leads the Bearcats with 8.7 rebounds per game and is shooting 58.4 percent from the field.
Cincinnati is yielding 61.6 ppg, which ranks as the 10th-best in all of Division I.
East Carolina will look to score its first win over the Bearcats in the Queen City, where it is 0-5 against UC.
