ECU Returns To Shell Practice; Worth Gregory Profile
August 18, 2016 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. – First-year head coach Scottie Montgomery and his staff guided East Carolina through a 90-minute workout at Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex Thursday morning under partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low 90's.
"Today was a good day of work for us," Montgomery said. "We shouldn't have to use the tactics we used between last night and today to get a great day of practice. Great teams come out and work hard despite the circumstances. That's what I challenged them with in our team meeting. You can't come out and have a bad practice last night then have a fantastic one, like today. That's inconsistent and we have to start stacking great practices one on top of another. Last night and this morning, we had to let them know what we are trying to accomplish. You can't put together three or four good practices and start feeling good about yourself and then have a dip. That was the message today to the team."
Thursday's practice, the 17th for ECU, consisted of individual group sessions, 24 minutes of special teams drills and a combined 25 minutes of team, including 10 minutes inside the red zone.
Originally scheduled as the final two-a-day session of preseason camp, Montgomery decided to forgo the late afternoon workout and used that time to have a little fun with an offensive-defensive home run derby at the ECU Softball Stadium.
ECU has one scheduled practice remaining in Greenville (Friday) before officially closing camp on Saturday when the Pirates hold a public workout at Rocky River High School from 2:45-5:15 p.m. The full-pad practice is open to all Pirate Club members, fans and the media.
